Jaws of a robotic gripper operate with improved reliability and alignment
when reciprocated on guide dowels moving through anti-friction bushings.
Referring to the figure, gripper 1, to be held as a tool by a pick-up head, has
a pair of reciprocable jaws 2, 3 for grasping simultaneously a plurality of small
components. Dowels 4 are fixed in jaw 2 and extend into anti-friction bushings 5
held by a light press fit in jaw 3. Springs 6 urge the jaws apart but the gap is
limited by head 7 of screw 9 engaging counterbore 8 in jaw 3. Lugs 10 aid in
locating the gripper in the pick-up head. Each jaw is fitted with a rubber insert 11
adhesively attached to a base strip 12 secured by screws 13.
