A pneumatic tool for picking up a washer 1 comprises a probe 2 for insertion through the washer. The probe has a central bore 3 and backwardly directed nozzles 4 through which compressed air from a supply line 5 is blown to hold the washer against a plate 6. The washer is released by turning off the compressed air supply. The tool can carry several such probes on a single plate and form part of automated assembly equipment. This tool is able to handle crinkle- or spring-washers which could not be handled by a vacuum unit.
