Concept Search - What can I type?
For a concept search, you can enter phrases, sentences, or full paragraphs in English. For example, copy and paste the abstract of a patent application or paragraphs from an article.
Concept search eliminates the need for complex Boolean syntax to inform retrieval. Our Semantic Gist engine uses advanced cognitive semantic analysis to extract the meaning of data. This reduces the chances of missing valuable information, that may result from traditional keyword searching.

Carriage Latch for Disk File
In a magnetic disk file with a movable head carriage assembly it is
necessary to restrain the carriage when the system is not in use. If this is not
done, the assembly could easily be damaged.
The illustration shows a disk file head carriage 1 which is free to travel axially
along a round way 2. The bottom side of the carriage has a notch 3 in the center
rib for engagement with a pin 4 that is integral with armature 5 of a linear
solenoid 6. A hole 7 in the round way coaxial with the center core of the solenoid
6 serves as a guide for the vertical motion of armature 5. The solenoid fits into a
cavity provided in the structural casting 8. The solenoid assembly includes a
mild steel cover 9, sleeve 10 and top washer 11 which together provide a return
path for the magnet flux induced by coil 12. A compression spring 13 acts
against the bottom of armature 5 to provide an upward force to the armature for
engagement with the carriage notch when the coil is deenergized. The notch in
the carriage is brought into alignment with the armature by other means not
The larger diameter of armature 5 acts as an upstop against the bottom of
round way 2 and as a downstop against a restriction 14 provided in the core of
the coil. Since the hole in the round way is aligned with the core of the coil, the
location and stroke of the armature are restricted by the dimension of the parts
and, hence, no adjustments are required.
