Abstract

Acoustic data representing noise levels of apparatus under test is derived using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) narrow band analyzer of constant bandwidth, e.g., 0.5Hz, 1.25Hz. The data is reproduced as a frequency spectrum trace on a CRT display of the analyzer. In order to determine a measure of the nuisance value of this noise to a human operator, a program operates on the constant bandwidth data stored in the analyzer to generate a modified frequency spectrum of the noise levels representing the output from an ideal analyzer with swept filter of constant percentage bandwidth. The program requires the operator to set the Percentage value and frequency range, and thereafter automatically produces the modified frequency spectrum.
