Device for Testing Needle Cards
The device shown above allows the quality of needle cards, used for testing
chips or wafers, to be controlled through an image registration process.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of a needle card whose geometry is to be controlled.
The needles 1 are fixed to a printed circuit card 2 through copper layer 3 and tin
solder 4. They are maintained by means of glue 5. The needles are used to
make contact with a chip or wafer 6 to be tested.
Fig. 2 shows the principle of the device, represented in Fig. 3, used to test
The card 7 and the chip 6 are arranged in the device comprising a mixing
cube 8 and a metallized glass plate 9. Plate 9 is lighted by a green light, and
chip 6 by a red light. The images are observed by optical viewer 10.
By adjusting the position of chip 6 and card 7, the image of
the chip is set in registration with the image of the needle ends
thanks to mixing cube 8.
