Abstract

Word processing devices often utilize a table of words, referred of as a spelling dictionary, to check for the correct spelling of words within a document. Operator-keyed words are compared with the words in the table of words, and words which match with words in the table of words are determined to be spelled correctly. Words not found in the table of words are highlighted to the operator so that the operator may take action with respect thereto. This article describes how the table of words can also be utilized for text compression when the word processing apparatus is utilized to communicate a stored document to another word processing device.
