Abstract

This article describes an apparatus and method for measuring the performance of a document feed device while it is attached to a copier. A copy sheet having a particular pattern thereon is run through the document feeder, and an electrostatic image of the pattern is formed on the photoconductor drum. A plurality of sensors are disposed relative to the drum and sense the electrostatic pattern thereon. The output from the sensors is monitored by a microcomputer which utilizes the signal with a plurality of stored algorithms to generate the signals which can be utilized to align the document-handling device relative to the copier or output values indicative of the alignment of the document handler relative to the copier.
