A "Z"-shaped spring device locks the handle of a circuit breaker into its opened position after the breaker has been tripped. One end of the Z is mounted on the breaker frame. The free end of the Z is normally positioned over a tab on the breaker handle, and it springs behind the tab when the breaker is opened and thereby prevents the handle from being moved to the closed position. A pull ring on the free end of the Z permits maintenance personnel to lift the end of the Z from its locking position and to move the breaker handle to the closed position.
