Abstract

The rotor of a centrifugal pump is provided with a set of auxiliary impeller blades on the shaft side of the impeller plate. The auxiliary impeller tends to pump fluid from the closed area of the pump casing where the shaft seal is located, and this suction reduces the leakage of the shaft seal.
