Abstract

This article describes an insert that is suitable for insertion in a part made of thermoplastic or other similarly deformable material, such as soft metal, wood, etc. The insert is composed of a support body with a plurality of unique barbed piercing blades extending from the surface. A recessed area is associated with each barbed piercing blade. When the insert is pressed into an appropriately sized hole, the unique barbed piercing blades direct the flow of the adjacent material into the unique recessed areas surrounding the blades. Significantly, the rotational and pull-out resistance of the insert is substantially increased. Furthermore, there is no debris or excess material remaining after the insertion.
