Abstract

After a magnet has been installed within a typewriter or other mechanical apparatus, it is many times virtually impossible to secure access to the magnet in such a way as to be able to measure its hold force through conventional techniques. In view of the inability to physically access the magnet for such a measurement, it has been found that there is an empirical relationship between drop time and the hold force of a magnet. If the magnet is displaying excessive holding force, the drop time of the magnet will be slow due to the fact that it takes a longer period for the magnetic flux to dissipate, thereby releasing the armature.
