A flexible disk drive cartridge may contain a movable bail which, when depressed, moves the media wiper material into contact with the recording media, thereby cleaning loose particles of debris from the surface of the media as the disk turns. When the cartridge 1 is inserted into one such drive, the bail 2 is on the bottom of the cartridge in the left front corner of the drive (Fig. 1). The drive also has a manually operated lever 3, which travels above the cartridge, that loads and unloads the collet from the top of the cartridge. The lever 3 also loads and unloads the head load arm and the cartridge-eject mechanism. One problem was to manually operate the cartridge bail from the bottom of the cartridge when all of the other manual operations are above the cartridge.
