Abstract

In a cluster of point-of-sale terminals sharing a common media station on which is recorded a common data base, the media station determines the need for its services by polling a local and plurality of remote satellite point-of-sale terminals. If a satellite has need for media station services, the satellite responds, when polled, with a request to one of eight service queues in the media station. The present fast scan technique allows one or more of the media station service queues to be designated as a special priority service. Fast scan also allows the remaining media station service queues to be ranked in terms of priority.
