The proposed concept serves to increase the packing density of data on magnetic, preferably magnetic disk, storages and comprises the following measures. Arranging a plurality of thin-film heads, say, 21, on a head carrier. These heads are positioned and dimensioned such that very small track widths (widths of the head poles) are obtained, and the tracks are formed closely adjacent to each other. This is achieved by staggering the heads, as diagrammatically illustrated in the figure showing a section of a head carrier with the pole faces of the read/write heads and the additional servo head. 2. At small track widths, thermal track shift of the head carrier is is problematical. To remedy this, one of the heads, for example, the center one, acts as an additional servo head.
