The method is implemented using a grinder under control of a microprocessor system. A glass scale and digital readout system is used to supply the table positional information to the microprocessor. The microprocessor samples the positional information at one second intervals and uses the change in distance to compute the speed. This table feed-rate is displayed on a cathode ray tube (CRT) for use by the operator. An advantage of this method is that the positional information of the table travel is always displayed reading supplied by the microprocessor on the CRT. Also, the microprocessor has the ability to stop the table at any predetermined point of travel, which eliminates the manual setting of limits. A flow chart of the method follows.
