Abstract

The furnace components of a hot isostatic press can be protected against heater oxidation during the densification processing of ceramic materials by placing the sample to be processed in a container. A cover is placed over the sample. Non-reactive sand is then placed over the cover and titanium shavings are added on top of the sand. A lid can then be placed over the top of the container. The containers are made of an alumina or INCONEL* metal.
