A word processing system is described which includes an auxiliary storage system for storing a large dictionary of words in association with a key to the display system. Sequentially keyed letters are compared with the dictionary storage to determine whether a valid word has been keyed. Keying of a valid word results in the display of that word. Keying of an incomplete word which itself is not a valid word results in the display of a complete form of a word. Operator depression of a space bar on the keyboard results in the displayed word being selected. If the displayed word is not selected, further character keyboarding then results in proper forms of word endings for the selected displayed word being displayed.
