Abstract

An impact printer hammer drive employs a moving magnetic armature (not shown) connected by a steel plunger 2 to a flexible steel drive link 3 operating against a hammer spring 1 which is rigidly affixed at a base 11. A hammer face 10 of a hard, wear-resistant material is affixed to the opposite end of the hammer spring 1. Push rod connecting wire 3 is of small diameter, typically 20 thousandths of an inch and is made of steel. The ends of the wire, being small, are apt to penetrate the material of the hammer spring or to vibrate and cause fretting corrosion to occur.
