It is found that by replacing a band with a wire having a diameter such that one half the circumference is (see article) to .025" will allow for the same surface area contact for clutching as with a 0.100" band width. Because the wire is not subject to anticlastic deformation, it is possible to replace the .100" wide band with at least 4 wires of .016" diameter.
