Diagnosing Interlocked Interfaces

This diagnostic scheme quickly and accurately isolates failing components of an I/O (input/output) interface without the use of additional special tools. The interface must have interlocked signal sequences; i.e., transmissions of information must be interlocked with corresponding response signals. Isolation is obtained by preserving the state of the interface lines at the time of the error and by using error information to identify the failing interface line. This allows service personnel to quickly locate the failing component.
