In certain electronic typewriters, motorized platen drive mechanisms provide for indexing of the paper and the platen. In this type of machine, the typist is required to use the index buttons required for both full and partial indexes of the platen. A typist who is unfamiliar with typewriters of this type has a difficult time loading and aligning paper to type even a simple letter. The simulated platen knob, disclosed herein and shown schematically in the drawing, solves the problem by providing a familiar interface to the typist.
