Generally in raster systems, data is transferred to the display processor from a byte string beginning at a source address in the host memory to a target address in the refresh buffer. In other systems, data is transferred to the buffer via a window specified by two pixel (picture element) coordinate pairs in the target refresh buffer. As more sophisticated use is made of raster displays, there will be a need to send shapes other than rectangles.
