Fail-Safe Centrifuge Cover Lock Mechanism

This article describes a fail-safe, cover-bowl interlock mechanism for a centrifuge, whereby if the cover is not securely locked to the bowl, the machine cannot be powered on. The mechanism consists of five basic components, as shown in the figure. A push-button shield plunger 1 and pin 2, a compression spring 3, a plunger bushing 4 rigidly attached to the centrifuge bowl cover 5 and a lock-no lock plunger sleeve 6 rigidly attached to the centrifuge bowl 7 itself.
