Liquid crystal display (LCD) fonts employ shapes physically out of the regular matrix positions, while electrically connected in a regular matrix. The shapes are in forms selected to be generally useful in forming all characters of a font. In one embodiment two elements in the body of a dot matrix are electrically connected as one, and the font is designed so that those elements are always on together or off together.
