This article describes an extension to the concept of Display Device Support known as "mapping" as implemented in several program products ("mappers"), such as DPPX/DPS, CICS/BMS and IMS/MFS. The existing implementations support a transformation of an application's data into a presentation on a display device. The transformation is controlled by a software table called a "map" that is defined using a specialized interactive utility (e.g., IMD for DPPX/DPS, or SDF for CICS/BMS) or using assembler macros (for CICS/BMS or IMS/MFS).
