Microprocessor-based workstations frequently have memory-mapped input-output (I/O) devices, such as a keyboard, printer or cathode ray tube monitor. Normally the parameters for these devices are stored in a microprogram, which provides flexibility, even to the point of changing the parameters during operation of the workstation.
