Abstract

Idler switches 10 and 12 for bubble memories are positioned between the output switches 13 of the minor loops 14 and the output channel 16 and between the corner 15 of the minor loops 14 and the input channel 18, respectively. The conductors 20 are used with the output idler switches 10, and the conductors 22 are used with the idler switches 12. The idler switches improve the performance of bubble devices by decoupling the minor loop rotation from reading and writing records, thereby increasing data accessibility. Reducing the number of bits in the idler loop to one bit increases the effectiveness and efficiency of the idler loop.
