There are many program packages available to help the systems programme analyze a system from a time sharing option (TSO) terminal. These programs usually produce "summary" output in that they gather data over * a "long" period of seconds or minutes and display the results statistically. Sometimes it is necessary to have more detailed data to, for example, determine exactly what program (or user) is causing a particular problem. This detailed data can be gathered by taking a "snapshot" of the system trace table and allowing the user to display this "snapshot" in a variety of ways, including a display of the trace table entries by: --userid or job name (i.e., by address space number), --I/O device, --trace entry type.
