Conventional solar energy collection controllers operate by sensing a difference between the collector inlet fluid temperature and the collector outlet fluid temperature. An "on" signal is generated to begin the collection process when this difference reaches a pre-set value, and an "off" signal is generated when the difference falls below another preset value. These state-of-the-art solar energy collection controllers have proven to be inadequate for the economic control of solar energy systems. In many instances, it has been observed that the controllers either actuate before sufficient energy is available for collection or remain activated beyond the availability of adequate solar energy for efficient collection.
