In certain applications involving the winding of wire on a drum such as the flat cable fabrication disclosed in the preceding article, a lead screw is employed to provide a fixed pitch for the wire being wound. However, it is frequently desirable to vary the lead of a fixed pitched lead screw for applications requiring little or no accumulative error or requiring a slight lead change, as in the fabrication of wire cables required to match a circuit board or driven device.
