A solution is described for reading fixed format data recorded in parallel where check symbols are ordered in a fixed relationship to the data, independent of the operation. In such cases, extracting the check symbols requires that their position be known. The reordering may be done in any fashion, but should consider the optimum implementation of the system using the check symbols. The solution applied to the format shown below, for an optimal implementation, requires that the check symbols precede the data. Therefore, the backward sequence must be reordered.
