A V-shaped notch 10 in the brazing tip 12 holds the wire 14 against bonding
surface 16 for brazing.
The side walls of the groove are configured to exert equal force on the two
points of the wire which are contacts. One of the electrodes 18 can be
lengthened to provide a brazing current path from the lengthened leg through the
brazing pad 16 and the wire 14 to the shorter electrode along with a brazing
current path from the longer electrode directly through the wire 14 to the shorter
Narrow conductive path 20 can also be used to heat up the brazing tip to a
bonding temperature. Once the brazing tip 12 has heated up and the wire
polyurethane melts, the high resistance path 20 is shorted by the path through
the wire 14. This scheme provides series heating and parallel heating while
protecting from a thermal runaway because of the continually closed path
through the segment 20.
