This article describes the Set Track Mask and Read Track Mask channel control words (CCWs) for use in the dump/restore of full tracks on direct-access storage devices (DASDs). By these CCWs, the control unit is given the order in which tracks are to be accessed (for read or write), permitting the access of multiple tracks within a single channel program. The order in which tracks are to be accessed may be in consecutive or non-consecutive track read sequences.
