For cost minimization, the number of parts used to support a flexible disk record sheet within a disk cartridge should be minimized while performing all of the functions necessary for successful protection of the record disk and access to its recording surfaces. The cartridge typically has a plate-like bottom and top enclosing the record disk. A shutter is slidably mounted on the cartridge bottom for closing the aperture in the cartridge bottom when the cartridge is not in use. During this time, the hub, which adhesively mounts the record disk, rests on the shutter and resides within the illustrated aperture of the backing plate. When the cartridge is inserted into a record player (not shown), a drive shaft moves through the illustrated apertures in the bottom shutter for engaging the hub, as shown.
