Abstract

In the packaging of semiconductor chips, one current technique employs the use of a ceramic substrate having cermet resistors deposited thereon. The resistors transmit precisely measured current at precise drops between metal lines on the substrate. The resistance of these cermet resistors must be precisely and closely controlled. Various techniques have been developed to adequately control the initial resistance of these resistors, but it has been found that during use, electrolytic corrosion induced by the voltage drop across the resistor in conjunction with any electrolyte is encountered in use. This can significantly alter the resistance of the resistor.
