Many datasets use VSAM (virtual sequential access method), which requires ownership for managing the individual datasets. In many data processing installations, the datasets of VSAM and other systems are migrated from an operating memory to a backup memory. A user which owns the datasets that are migrated may recall the datasets to the operating memory. Such users often may not request that the migrated copy in the backup memory of the recalled datasets be scratched or erased. Accordingly, plural copies of the datasets can exist simultaneously in a data processing installation. Such multiple copies are not desired, and the present article teaches the transfer of ownership of all migrated datasets to a migration control for eliminating duplicity.
