Program Counters for Josephson Circuits

A family of program counters for Josephson circuits is shown using self-activating toggle switches and set-reset toggle switches implemented with Josephson components. The operating principle of this program counter is to count machine program cycles by providing an output signal every second, fourth, or eighth machine program cycle, as well as other integral periodic output signals modulo 2 /n/(n=23....) This is done by serially connecting toggle circuits, each of which divides in half the frequency of its input. The frequency of an external timing signal (power supply waveform) associated with the machine program cycle is provided by two, four, and eight.
