Ink jet drop generators when shipped for field replacement are normally shipped with the head full of an ink or other similar fluid (for example, a dyeless ink formulation). When the drop generators are stored for future use, the water in the ink eventually evaporates, reducing the shelf life of the drop generator because, when evaporation has occurred, any dye or other material left behind becomes more viscous to the point where the orifice of the drop generator may completely or partially clog.
