Aspect Ratio of Magnetoresistive Detector Stripes

The aspect ratio of long thin magnetoresistive (MR) detector stripes is reduced by depositing a line of magnetic films 1 in series, each film having a 3:1 aspect ratio. Enough space is provided between the films to avoid magnetic coupling. A nonmagnetic conductor 2 is deposited in the spaces between the MR films 1 to provide continuity and to aid as a buffer zone. The effective bias of the MR sensor is enhanced, and linear response is improved.
