Abstract

The coil spring 10 (Fig. 1) in compression acts as a rigid column when force is applied axially. When a force is applied perpendicular to the spring axis, the spring deflects easily as a cantilever-type spring. Thus, when a keylever 14 is depressed, the spring 10 is compressed and the force is transferred through the spring 10 to the interposer 16. The spring 10 is deflected to the side (Fig. 2) when the keylever 14 is held down during a machine cycle as the character interposer 12 returns to its restored position.
