DASD Arm Buffers

A new design for full track direct-access storage device (DASD) buffers is described which improves the performance by increasing the operational overlap. The DASD arm buffer consists of a memory package (RAM (random-access memory), CCD (charge-coupled device), magnetic bubbles, etc.) and related control circuitry dedicated to a single logical DASD device (i.e., a single device address). This usually consists of a single movable arm accessing a rotating magnetic medium.
