Abstract

In a text processing system, characters and control codes are represented by a sequence of codes and recorded on magnetic cards as such. This sequence of codes is defined as a record sequence. These sequences are read from magnetic cards into a track-long random-access memory (MEM) where the sequences are translated into the internal code of the system and transferred to a main memory. A problem occurs when a record sequence extends across card track boundaries because an incomplete sequence exists at the end of the present track and the beginning of the next track. A problem also occurs when an error occurs in one or more of the codes in the record sequence. A solution to these problems is
