A method is described for producing a "metallic" type element while eliminating the need for surface plating. In essence, the method comprises modifying the compound used in making the type element with fillers that secure the physical properties and approximate a metalplated finish or appearance. In addition, thermoplastic compound can replace thermosetting material, resulting in lower material cost and shorter molding cycle. Further cost reductions are realized by elimination of the plating process.
