High-Speed Switchable Voltage-Controlled Current/Voltage Source

Switching between current and voltage forcing functions for automated test and measurement applications has traditionally been done by means of mechanical relays or redundant circuitry. This article describes two circuits which perform this function without the necessity of mechanical switching, enabling significant improvements in cost, speed and reliability. In addition to instrumentation applications, the capability to programmably select either voltage or current source modes of forcing function generators may prove useful in power supply and servo-control applications.
