Abstract

Read-only storage (ROS) modules can operate at higher guaranteed speed if the number of data "1" values on each bit line is minimized. When the number of "1" values exceeds 50% on a bit line, all values on that line are inverted, and the output of the bit line itself is inverted. This can be done with either a programmable inverter in all bit lines, or a simple exclusive-OR gate on the data-output line.
