In the fixed block architecture (FBA) in direct-access storage devices, data blocks are explicitly addressed using the "Locate" channel command. To minimize rotational delay it may be desirable to read the next set of blocks passing under the read head as soon as the head is located on a track. Examples of use would be replicated index blocks or a full track read of self-describing data. In each case, the structure on the disk takes advantage of the rotational nature of the storage media to gain performance.
