In single sheet-feed-from-a-pack-of-paper, sheet feed attachments for a typewriter, an effective way of feeding the paper to the typewriter is by utilizing a shingler roll to separate a single sheet from the bottom of the stack for insertion into the typewriter platen. In practice, the shingler roll moves a single sheet from the bottom of the stack of sheets rearwardly, separating the forward edge of the sheet from a tray or ledge support so that the forward edge of the sheet falls below the support. When the paper is sensed as having moved rearwardly, the shingler roll direction of rotation is reversed and the paper is driven towards the platen for ultimate engagement by the platen of the typewriter.
