In automated impact printer operations, the controlled data processor, such as a microprocessor, will generally carry out the operation of a plurality of stepper motors in overlapping operation. For example, it is desirable that a single microprocessor have the capability of controlling the stepper motors which drive the character selection wheel as well as the printer escapement. In such operations, information is provided to the processor which includes the distance necessary to move the print character wheel to the selected character as well as the distance of a particular escapement move and the velocity of the escapement in making that move.
