Flexible fingers 10 extend from a movable carrier. Anvils 11 attached to fingers 10 behind dot-forming elements 12 are struck by hammers 13, causing dot impressions to form on a print medium. In Fig. 1, the hammer faces are staggered in an alternating over-and-under arrangement. This permits the hammers to be wider than their center-to-center spacing. The additional hammer width is used for a bevel 15 that acts as a ramp for an approaching anvil 11.
