Digital System for Monitoring Power Supply Voltages

This article describes a digital system for monitoring power supply voltages where the supply to be checked is selected by the analog multiplexer 1 and presented to the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) 2. The ADC output is fed to one side of digital comparators 3 and 6. The other side of the digital comparator is fed from a read-only memory (ROM) 5 that contains the upper and lower threshold limits for the particular voltages being monitored. The output of the comparators 3 and 6 indicates that the voltages are either inside or outside acceptable levels. The ROM 5 addressing and the analog multiplexer 1 addressing are provided by the counter/register unit 4. Control of the ADC 2 and the counter/ register unit 6 is provided by the timer/sequencer unit 7. Basic system timing is provided by oscillator 8.
